Job Summary: The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, directs, implements, and assists to provide quality patient care for assigned patients.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
- Plans, assesses, directs, implements and provides quality patient care for assigned patients to include modifying nursing care, medication administration and discharge planning. Provides education directed towards individualized patient needs utilizing the nursing process in coordination with policies and procedures.
- Monitors changes in patient condition to include recording and reporting symptoms, assessing vital signs and intervening when appropriate.
- Performs complete data collection from patient presenting complaints and pertinent history.
- Collaborates with patients to identify treatment plan goals, and discharges patients as appropriate with a written discharge plan. Encourages family participation as appropriate for age and situation.
- Delivers nursing care to patients including assessment and planning of education directed towards identified knowledge deficits, treatment, pain management, and discharge utilizing the nursing process.
- Documents accurately in medical records, on forms, and in the computer entering appropriate orders, patient charges, and or other information, meeting standards, policy, and procedures.
- Delivers quality care by using multi-disciplinary team strategies and minimizing the risk of infection, harm, or injury.
- Maintains accurate detailed reports and records and directs care with regard to age and developmental stage, presenting complaint, and pertinent history.
- Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, staff, patients, and visitors.
- Anticipates deteriorating life sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate action.
- Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
- Collaborates with patient care team members on patient care plan, incorporating consistent use of hand-off communication.
- Conducts and coordinates patient care and patient transfers in accordance with EMTALA regulations, as applicable.
- Performs additional department-specific functions as outlined in department procedures.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Nursing Diploma from an Accredited Diploma Program or Associate or higher Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state within 90 days.
- 4881 RN I: 6 months -1.99 years of relevant experience.
- 4882 RN II: 2-4.99 years of relevant experience.
- 4883 RN III: 5-9.99 years of relevant experience.
- 4884 RN IV: 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
- ACLS within 3 months of hire, EKG test passed within 90 days, and initial NIHSS within 90 days and maintained throughout employment.
- Completion of unit specific competency based orientation program within 90 days.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Certification in the area of nurse specialty.
