Company History

Ochsner Health System began as the Ochsner Clinic when it was
founded by Drs. Alton Ochsner, Edgar Burns, Guy A. Caldwell,
Francis E. LeJeune and Curtis Tyrone in 1941 in New Orleans.
Together with J. Blanc Monroe and Theodore Brent, the five
partners became the founders of The Alton Ochsner Medical
Foundation in 1944, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the
purposes of research, education and charity.
In 1954, Ochsner Foundation Hospital officially moved to its
current flagship campus on Jefferson Highway, later being joined
by the Ochsner Clinic in 1963. This co-location resulted in greater
efficiencies, allowing Ochsner to treat more patients. Later, in 2001,
the clinic and the foundation agreed to consolidate into a single
organization, the not-for-profit Ochsner Clinic Foundation, later
designated as the Ochsner Health System.
