EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Brigid Alliance is a national practical support organization working to close the gap between the need for abortion care and the ability to access it. Since launching in August of 2018, The Brigid Alliance has assisted more than 8,500 individuals and families from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and beyond. We are a crucial part of the reproductive health ecosystem, connecting the geographic and metaphorical dots between policy, providers, practice, and patients.

The Brigid Alliance is now seeking an HR Generalist who will play a vital role within the People & Culture team, supporting the team’s day-to-day operations and ensuring a consistent, equitable, and people-centered employee experience across a fully remote team. Reporting to the Associate Director of People & Culture, the HR Generalist will partner closely with managers and cross-functional teams to support employee lifecycle processes, HR administration, compliance, internal systems, and organizational effectiveness.

This is a full-time, exempt, remote position with an anticipated annual salary range of $90,000-97,500, depending on experience.

ABOUT THE BRIGID ALLIANCE

The Brigid Alliance envisions a world where everyone has access to abortion care, uninhibited by stigma and free of systemic or geographic barriers. We arrange and fund practical support for people who must travel long distances for abortion care, particularly prioritizing clients beyond 15 weeks of pregnancy for whom it’s generally more expensive and harder to find a provider near home. We also work with individuals and communities disproportionately affected by abortion restrictions: individuals living at or below the federal poverty line, people of color, minors, undocumented immigrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, people living in communities with limited transportation infrastructure, individuals living in states hostile to women’s healthcare, disabled people, survivors of abuse, and those who rely on Medicaid or are uninsured. 

The Brigid Alliance is a crucial part of the reproductive health ecosystem connecting the geographic and metaphorical dots between policy, providers, practice, and patients. By alleviating the logistical barriers and financial obstacles of access to care, we are working to ensure that everyone has access to abortion care, no matter where they live.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE HR GENERALIST

The HR Generalist will support the People & Culture function by ensuring strong operational foundations, responsive employee support, and consistent HR practices across the organization. This role contributes to both daily execution and longer-term systems and process improvement. More specifically, the HR Generalist engages in this work in the following ways:

People Operations and HR Administration 

• Support employee lifecycle processes, including onboarding, offboarding, job changes, and personnel record maintenance.
• Maintain HR systems, files, and documentation to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.
• Support benefits administration, open enrollment processes, and employee inquiries in coordination with vendors and the Associate Director of People & Culture.
• Assist with payroll-related coordination and data changes in partnership with the Director of Operations and external providers.

Policy, Compliance, and HR Systems

• Support the implementation and administration of HR policies, procedures, and internal guidelines.
• Serve as the primary organizational liaison for the PEO (currently Justworks), managing the vendor relationship, overseeing platform administration, and ensuring compliance.
• Support compliance-related documentation, reporting, and audits as needed.
• Support salary benchmarking and internal audits as necessary. 
• Maintain and update employee handbooks, internal guides, and People & Culture documentation.

Employee Support and Engagement

• Serve as a point of contact for employee questions related to People & Culture processes and systems.
• Build out people-centered internal guides and resources. 
• Support employee engagement initiatives, internal communications, and training coordination.
• Assist with accommodations, leave administration, and sensitive employee matters under the guidance of the Associate Director of People & Culture.

Recruitment and Talent Processes

• Support hiring processes, including job posting coordination, interview scheduling, and candidate communications.
• Assist with onboarding logistics and coordination for new hires.
• Maintain accurate recruitment records and documentation.

Collaborate Cross Functionally Across the Organization 

• Partner with managers and teams across the organization to support consistent People & Culture practices.
• Collaborate with Finance, Operations, and external vendors, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational priorities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Brigid Alliance is a New York–originated organization with a fully remote team distributed across the United States. This position is open to individuals residing in approved states, including Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.

This is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Staff work across multiple time zones, and the ability to consistently work Eastern Time hours is required.

The role requires sustained computer use and the ability to work effectively in a remote, technology-enabled environment, as well as occasional travel for in-person meetings, events, or conferences.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting annual salary range of $90,000–$97,500, determined based on experience and alignment with The Brigid Alliance’s established salary band and step structure. The organization uses a non-negotiable salary framework to ensure equity, consistency, and transparency.

The benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance beginning on the first day of employment; paid family leave (16 weeks at 100% salary continuation); 403(b) contributions; generous paid time off (20 days of PTO during the first two years, increasing with tenure at the organization); 9 paid holidays plus an end-of-year office closure; and a monthly remote work stipend ($150 per month).

The organization also offers an annual professional development budget of $1,000 per employee and a wellness stipend of $500/year.

Requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate brings a strong service orientation, sound HR fundamentals, and a commitment to equity-centered practices. This hire will be the go-to HR resource for managers across the organization and, as such, must bring a proactive, problem-solving approach that relies on high EQ and foresight. The Brigid Alliance recognizes that candidates may not meet every qualification listed and will support growth and development within the role.

Required Skills and Experience

• 4-6+ years of HR or people operations experience in a multi-state, remote, or hybrid environment; nonprofit or mission-driven experience preferred.
• Hands-on experience managing a PEO or HRIS (e.g., Justworks, TriNet, Insperity, Rippling), preferably experience managing the relationship with the vendor and serving as the point person for your organization’s PEO. 
• Experience supporting benefits and leave administration and processing payroll-related changes; strong spreadsheet skills, including lookups, pivots, and data validation.
• Working knowledge of employment basics, including wage and hour requirements, leaves, final pay, and notices, with sound judgment around escalation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate HR decisions with clarity, kindness, and directness, bringing an equity-centered, trauma-informed approach. 
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with keen attention to detail.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks with care in a dynamic work environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and active listening skills, and ability to obtain information without judgment. Respectful of confidentiality and privacy, and exercises discretion. 
• Skilled and comfortable with giving and receiving feedback regularly. 
• Comfort using tools such as Google Workspace, Salesforce, or similar platforms.
• Commitment to abortion access and bodily autonomy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience supporting a PEO transition or systems migration.
• Familiarity with multi-state employment compliance.
• SHRM-CP or PHR certification.
• Experience relevant to reproductive health, public health, disability justice, racial justice, or broader social justice movements.
• Experience in customer service, crisis intervention, mutual aid, or direct service roles.
• Knowledge of the legislative, political, and legal landscape related to abortion access.
