The Division of Building Safety ensures public health, safety, and welfare through the enforcement of federal, state, and local codes and ordinances governing construction. Plan reviews, permit issuance, and inspections are performed for structural, electrical, plumbing, gas, heating, air conditioning, restoration, solar, and ventilation systems for all residential and commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with these codes
The Building Safety Division is currently seeking well qualified candidates to fill multiple electrical inspector one or two positions. These positions conduct inspections and tests in the assigned specialty area to enforce compliance with the county adopted codes and applicable laws, rules and regulations. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general direction of the assigned supervisor. Performances were viewed through observation, conferences, reports and results achieved.
Representative Duties /Assignments
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
Conducts inspections for compliance with adopted codes, County Ordinances and State Statutes.
Reads and interprets construction plans and blueprints.
Informs the public of building code changes and explains code to contractors, architects, engineers, and homeowners.
Maintains accurate records of inspection activities and violations.
Utilizes mobile data computer system and various Office programs.
Assists other county departments with code related interpretations/enforcement when requested.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

This includes but is not limited to the following: outdoor lighting, landscaping lighting, underground wiring installations, and electrical wiring systems in concrete slabs, floors, walls, and ceilings in buildings of all sizes. Inspects electrical work, electrical fire penetrations and other installations and related items. Keeps a record of inspections and violations.

Minimum qualifications.
Electrical Inspector I
High school graduate or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in the construction industry. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for up to four (4) years of experience with a minimum of one (1) year of construction experience.
Note: Experience must be verified, in the form of an affidavit, by a licensed contractor, fire marshal, architect, engineer, or building official during first week of employment.
Must possess State of Florida Standard Inspector license pursuant to Florida Statute Chapter 468, Part XII for applicable discipline(s): Building, Mechanical, Electrical and/or Plumbing.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License.
Electrical Inspector I Additional Mandatory Requirement.
An electrical inspector candidate must qualify for a provisional inspector license in the applicable trade pursuant to Florida Statute Chapter 468, Part XII. Employee(s) must obtain A provisional inspector's license within 120 days from date of hire and a standard inspector's license within two years from the date of receiving a provisional license and shall maintain said license throughout employment as an inspector.
Note: Employees. That are unable to obtain the required license within the established time frame will be required to forfeit their position as an Orange County Electrical Inspector.
Electrical Inspector II.
