Description
The Wisconsin Cancer Reporting System, located within the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Division of Public Health, is recruiting for an Oncology Data Specialist.
As the Oncology Data Specialist, you will be responsible for data editing activities that meet current statutory mandates and federal reporting guidelines. You will make quality improvement recommendations to management for data edit procedures, and work collaboratively with management on the implementation of data edit procedure improvements. In addition, you will be responsible for the evaluation of cancer data quality and implementation of cancer data quality improvements. You will:
- Review data quality through internal auditing processes including implementing cancer case data collection.
- Perform cancer case abstracting, consolidating, case finding, and coding.
- Coordinate the data editing process.
- Assist in developing and maintaining registry services that support surveillance and case ascertainment.
- Lead utilizing eMaRC to process and store incoming electronic pathology reports.
- Conduct one-on-one and statewide trainings and conduct and record web-based trainings for reporting facilities.
This position offers the option to work remotely up to 5 days per week. Working outside of Wisconsin or in bordering cities will not be allowed except in extremely limited circumstances.

Requirements
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
- Current Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) credential or ability to complete the Cancer Registry Management program. Selected candidate must obtain this credential within one year of hire.
- Experience reviewing completeness, accuracy and quality of a database or registry.
- Experience providing technical assistance to internal and external partners including integrating equity and accessibility principles.
Well-qualified applicants will have one or more of the following:
- Experience providing technical assistance and training to end-users in a hospital or healthcare setting with diverse user audiences.
- Experience with program evaluation techniques in healthcare settings (e.g., quality improvement, compliance, etc.).
- Experience with a cancer program including working as ODS or in a hospital or clinic setting.
