Serve your country proudly as a part-time (full benefits) highly functional Medical Surgical Nurse. The Navy gives you the opportunity to meet other Nurses throughout the region and collaborate, mentor and provide medical care to our warfighters.

Navy commissioned nurses implement their nursing skills beneficiaries and warfighters. The Navy will mentor and provide nursing courses to ensure that you are well prepared in the Medical Surgical Community. The Navy will provide real-world nursing settings that are like the civilian sector but with a higher sense of meaning such as Humanitarian missions around the world. They work at top military medical facilities and work hand in hand with all interdisciplinary personnel that form a strong Healthcare.

As a Navy Nurse Officer, you will be able to lead the charge in providing high quality healthcare to Service Members, their families, and, when called upon to the rest of the world. You will also lead men and women who have pledged in defending this nation forward with Honor, Courage and Commitment.

As a Navy Nurse, you will be drilling (one weekend of the month) near your home. It will be the nearest Navy Reserve Command (NRC). This is valuable as you will be close to home and will typically be working an 8hr. day. You will be excused from your normal civilian work schedule as you are now a part of the United States Navy performing your honorable duties as a warfighter. For annual training, nurses may serve anywhere in the world, whether at sea, in hospitals stateside, or in bases and camps in the United States and countries around the world.

Job Requirements

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Between 21 and 42 years of age (waivers are granted on a case-by-case basis up to age 68)
  • Be in good physical health and able to meet the Navy’s physical fitness standards.
  • A graduate of an accredited educational program resulting in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Have a current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • 1 year of inpatient experience.
  • Evidence of 288 hours of medical surgical nursing care delivery the past 2 years verified by peers and supervisor
  • Ability to complete of 5 -week Officer Training School in New Port, RI within one year after commissioning. Or options to complete a three week and two week split course.
