Hours: Monday to Friday; standard business hours
Location: Remote (CST or EST)
Pay: $45 - 55/hour based on experience, education, and credentials
Position Type: Long-term Consultant
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Remote Outpatient CDI Specialist (RN) to join our client’s clinical documentation team. This role is ideal for nurses with a strong acute care foundation who can translate complex clinical information into accurate, complete, and compliant documentation for outpatient encounters.
The ideal candidate brings a blend of clinical expertise and analytical skill to ensure provider documentation reflects the true severity, complexity, and specificity of patient diagnoses. We’re seeking nurses who understand patient care in inpatient settings and can apply that knowledge to documentation review, provider education, and clinical validation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Review outpatient encounters for documentation accuracy, completeness, and consistency to support the appropriate level of service and clinical conditions.
- Collaborate with providers to clarify documentation.
- Provide feedback and education to clinicians to support continuous improvement in documentation practices.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards related to clinical documentation.
- Utilize EMR systems and CDI tools to track reviews, queries, and outcomes.
- Participate in meetings and quality initiatives as needed to support documentation excellence across the continuum of care.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license (compact or state-specific).
- 1+ years of clinical experience
- 1+ years of demonstrated experience in outpatient CDI; inpatient CDI may be considered depending on experience level and willingness to transition to outpatient CDI
- Previous experience providing physician education on documentation improvement
- Strong understanding of clinical disease processes, treatment plans, and terminology.
- Excellent communication skills; able to work effectively with physicians and clinical staff.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and organizational abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Risk Adjustment experience is highly preferred
- CCDS or CCDS-O certification strongly preferred
- Experience with Epic or similar EMR systems
Who Should Apply?
This position is a great fit for RNs with a strong clinical foundation who enjoy bridging the gap between bedside care and data integrity. If you have hands-on experience in fast-paced hospital environments and a curiosity for understanding how documentation drives quality, compliance, and reimbursement, this is an excellent opportunity. Candidates with strong acute care nursing backgrounds, especially from Level 1 trauma hospitals, who have transitioned into outpatient CDI or quality review will thrive in this role.
